BE AWARE! THESE ARE THE TOP SCAMS IN 2026

AI VOICE CLONING & DEEPFAKES: Scammers use AI to mimic the voices of loved ones, creating fake emergencies (e.g., “I’m in jail,” “I’ve been kidnapped”) to demand immediate money.

PIG-BUTCHERING (ROMANCE/INVESTMENT) SCAMS:

Fraudsters build trust through dating apps or social media, then persuade victims to invest in fraudulent cryptocurrency platforms.

BANK IMPOSTER & “SAFE ACCOUNT” SCAMS:

Scammers pose as bank fraud department employees, notifying victims of a fake transaction, then instructing them to move money to a “secure” account, which is actually the scammer’s.

GOVERNMENT IMPOSTER SCAMS: Impersonators claim to be from the FTC or FinCEN, alleging the victim is involved in money laundering or owes taxes, demanding, instant, untraceable payments.

OTP BOT SCAMS: Scammers use automated bots to trick people into revealing One-Time Passwords (OTPs) to bypass 2-factor authentication.

COMMON RED FLAGS

URGENCY: High-pressure tactics forcing quick, unverified decisions.

UNUSUAL PAYMENT METHODS: Requests for gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.

ISOLATION: Demands to move conversations to encrypted apps like WhatsApp or Telegram.

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF

VERIFY INDEPENDENTLY: Hang up and call the company, person or credit union directly using a trusted number, not the one provided in a text or call.

ENABLE ALERTS: Set up AFCU notifications for transactions over a certain amount (e.g., $100).

REPORT PROMPTLY: Report scams to the Federal Trade Commission. Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov) The world is moving faster than ever.

Since 1970, the world celebrates Earth Day on April 22nd – an opportunity for families to show appreciation for the environment. Start by clipping newspaper articles and noting local observances.

71st Annual Meeting Held

Your credit union held its 71st annual meeting on March 11th, 2026, at The Club at Twin Lakes.

Attendees learned that their credit union is doing well and is being operated in a safe and sound manner.

Congratulations to Ron Fulmer, Ken Kline and John Nyemscek for their re-election to the Board of Directors.
