Plan Out Gifts to Stay on Budget

Set aside some money each month or paycheck for presents, and you'll be prepared when a gift-giving event rolls around.

But how do you ensure that money will cover the gifts you'll be giving?

  • Make a list of the known gifts you'll be giving the rest of the year: birthdays, showers, weddings, and Christmas. Have funds transferred from your paycheck into a special sub-savings account through payroll deduction. You can save as much or as little as you'd like, plus you can earn interest on your money.
  • Organize by date, recipient and amount you plan to spend. April Dykman at the Get Rich Slowly blog offers a sample gift-planning spreadsheet with room for ideas at tinyurl.com/2bva9tk.
  • Put reminders on your calendar to alert you that the gift-giving occasion is approaching. Brainstorming what you might want to give to someone will allow you to shop throughout the year. You might be able to pick up a clearance or sale item and set it aside until gift time arrives, or get started on a handmade present. It will also help you avoid markups for expedited shipping.
  • Include an additional cushion for unexpected gifts that may come up. You might include an estimate for shipping.
  • Keep this list up to date. If someone announces an engagement or pregnancy, add those expected shower and other gifts to your list.

Regulation E, Overdraft
Protection, and YOU

What It All Means
Recent changes to federal regulations require members who use Overdraft Protection to opt-in to the program. This means that you MUST contact the Credit Union if you wish to continue using our services in the event of an overdraft of your checking account.

If you do not notify us…
ACH (automatic payments) and Share Draft (check) transactions will continue to be covered, but Point-of-Sale (everyday debit card transactions) and ATM transactions will NOT be covered. Instead, your transaction will be declined.

If you choose to continue with the program…
all of your transactions (automatic ACH payments, Share Draft, Point-of-Sale, ATM) WILL be covered and will not be returned for insufficient funds for a total of $500.00. There’s no charge to use Overdraft Protection, but you will be charged a $30.00 fee per transaction.

These changes will go into effect on August 15, 2010 so please be sure to contact us. To opt in to the program, be sure to stop by one of our branches immediately and fill out the consent form.
